Synopsis:
After a naval helicopter is sent to assist a civilian ship in need of help in the Mediterranean Sea, the pilots are taken hostage by a group of terrorists and held for ransom. A team of elite special forces soldiers known as SEALs are sent in to rescue the captive pilots. During their mission, the team discovers a shipment of stolen US stinger missiles, but their commander, Lt. Curran (Michael Biehn), makes the decision to ignore the missiles in an attempt to complete their assigned objective. Frustrated by the decision to leave the missiles behind, hot-headed Lt. Hawkins (Charlie Sheen) struggles with his ability to take orders. After US Naval Intelligence tracks down the location of the missiles in Beirut, the SEALs are sent into dangerous enemy territory in order to destroy them. They must work together as the well-trained fighting force they are if they want to complete their mission successfully and make it out alive.
Made in the wake of other successful military movies such as Top Gun, NAVY SEALS was one of the first big-budget action films to shine a spotlight on the then rarely talked about Navy SEALs. Featuring a glimpse at the type of training real-life SEALs go through, the movie features impressive stunt sequences shot on land, sea, and in the sky (most notably an impressive HALO jump sequence filmed at dusk). Made during the height of Charlie Sheen's (Platoon, Young Guns) cinematic career, the film stands as one of his most memorable roles thanks in part to an unforgettable character introduction, and features a strong performance by action movie tough guy, Michael Biehn (Terminator , The Abyss), as well as a notable performance by fan-favorite, Bill Paxton (Aliens, Twister), as a sniper nicknamed "God." Vinegar Syndrome Ultra is proud to present this testosterone-driven slice of action movie nostalgia for the first time on UHD, newly restored from the original camera negative, and featuring all of the bullets, explosions, and golfing montages that you can ask for.
