Synopsis:
An elderly woman is found murdered in the living room of her house on the outskirts of Oxford. Her body is discovered by two men, Arthur Seldom, a prestigious professor of Logic, and Martin, a young American student who has just arrived at the university with the intention of having the famous professor supervise his doctoral thesis. The death of the elderly woman is only the first in a series of murders with disturbing points in common. They are almost imperceptible crimes, which could even pass for natural deaths if it were not for the fact that each one of them is accompanied by a message: an image, a different sign on each occasion that, death by death, gives shape to a series whose logic the protagonists must decipher.
