Synopsis:
For William (Heath Ledger), the son of a humble roofer, it seems incomprehensible that he could ever achieve his childhood dream of becoming a knight. But one day, at a medieval jousting tournament, fate offers William a chance at success. Before long, he's reinvented himself as the nobleman Ulrich von Lichtenstein of Gelderland and vying for the hand of the beautiful Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon). Told in the (at times) quirky and forbidding world of the 14th-century European jousting circuit, the timeless story of William and his band of medieval misfits—including the earnest and kind-hearted Roland (Mark Addy), the impulsive Wat (Alan Tudyk), the blacksmith Kate (Laura Fraser), and the unknown writer Geoff Chaucer (Paul Bettany)—is part road trip, part romance, and part lush action-adventure.
