Synopsis:

Second World War. Invasion of Guadalcanal by American troops. Private Witt (Jim Caviezel), who had taken refuge on a paradise island, is forced to rejoin the ranks. There, in the midst of the horror of battle, he lives with very different companions: the skeptical Sergeant Welsh (Sean Penn); the doubtful captain Staros (Elias Koteas); the amorous soldier Bell (Ben Chaplin); the pugnacious and determined Lieutenant Colonel Tall (Nick Nolte); and many others. They are all marked by the war experience.
