Synopsis:

1861-1865. North America is experiencing the Civil War that pitted the Confederate army against Union troops. On the northern side there were soldiers reluctant to give weapons to blacks to fight against slavers, but a law was finally passed allowing people of African descent to enlist in the army. The 54th Massachusetts Regiment was the first and most courageous of the battalions formed by blacks, and Colonel Robert Gould Shaw was responsible for creating and organizing it.
