Synopsis:
Frankie Machine, an expert croupier and former morphine addict, is released from prison after serving his sentence. He returns home to Chicago with his wife Zosch with the firm intention of leaving his criminal past behind and rehabilitating himself from his addictions to drugs and gambling in order to pursue his old dream of becoming a drummer in a jazz band. But it won't be easy, as his old and undesirable friends are waiting for him, who will do everything they can to make him fall back into his old habits. The desperate reality he finds himself in will put him in a dead end.
