Synopsis:
Jagna is a young woman from a humble family determined to forge her own destiny in the small town in the Polish countryside where she lives. The place is a hotbed of gossip and continuous disputes, where rich and poor share pride in their land, local traditions and a deeply rooted patriarchy. Here Jagna will find herself caught between the competing desires of the richest landowner in the village, a man much older than her whom she is forced to marry, his son Antek with whom she has a secret affair, and other members of the community. But her rebellion and independence will end up making her the center of everyone's envy and hatred.
