Synopsis:
Before Hollywood's censors locked down the silver screen, M-G-M unleashed a racy, scandalous look at the high-stakes world of corporate greed and forbidden desire. At the center of it all is the screen's definitive pre-code scoundrel, Warren William, delivering a masterclass in suave villainy. Wilam stars as David Dwight, a silver-tongued financial wolf who rules Manhattan from the penthouse of his new 100-story Art Deco skyscraper. Dwight will stop at nothing to get what he wants - whether it is full ownership of his towering monument or the virtue of every woman who enters his orbit.
While this fast-paced melodrama bristles with the gritty realism, shocking cynicism, and gold-digging ambition more commonplace in the pre-code films of Warner Bros., Skyscraper Souls infuses that same raw energy with the peerless luxury of the M-G-M house style. The result is a breathtakingly sleek, morally uncompromised thrill ride. Dwight casually ruins investors by day while juggling a sophisticated mistress (Verree Teasdale) and predatory designs on an innocent new secretary (Maureen O'Sullivan) by night. It is a dizzying descent into a world of penthouse seductions, corporate blackmail, and unchecked hedonism that rushes toward a staggering climax.
