Synopsis:
Italy, 1907. Lucy Honeychurch, a young Englishwoman from a good family, is on vacation in Florence with Charlotte Bartlett, her cousin and lady-in-waiting. In the pension where they stay they coincide with other compatriots. Among them is a young man who catches Lucy's attention: George Emerson, a free-thinking, spontaneous and dreamy man. Their mutual attraction is cut short by Charlotte, who forces their hasty return to England. A few months later, when Lucy is engaged to the pompous Cecil Vyse, George reappears in her life.
