Synopsis:

Sangster Directs Hammer presents the North American UHD premieres of three classic films from one of Hammer Films' most influential creative voices, writer-director Jimmy Sangster. Known for scripting landmark titles such as The Curse Of Frankenstein, Horror Of Dracula, and The Mummy, Sangster returned in the 1970s to direct the only three features of his career--each offering a bold and distinctive take on horror. In The Horror Of Frankenstein, Ralph Bates stars as a cold and sociopathic reinterpretation of the infamous doctor, blending dark humor with graphic intensity. Lust For A Vampire pushes the studio's gothic sensuality into new territory, with Yutte Stensgaard leading a tale of seduction and bloodlust. Fear In The Night shifts into psychological territory, delivering a tense, giallo-tinged thriller starring Judy Geeson, Joan Collins, and Peter Cushing.

Each film is presented in UHD for the first time in North America, newly scanned in 4K from the original camera negatives. This 7-disc collection also includes an extensive 312-page book, Horror! Lust! Fear! Sangster, featuring essays, interviews, comic adaptations, and archival material that examine Sangster's lasting influence on genre filmmaking. Across all three films, the set offers over 18 hours of newly produced and archival special features, including multiple audio commentaries, cast and crew interviews, academic video essays, archival panels, and the 2026 documentary Hammer And Beyond: The Jimmy Sangster Legacy.

Additional highlights include in-depth explorations of Mary Shelley's literary legacy, the evolution of the Frankenstein mythos, the history of the Karnstein vampire cycle, and the cultural impact of Hammer Films in both the UK and the United States. With contributions from historians, scholars, and surviving collaborators, this collection provides a comprehensive examination of Sangster's work both in front of and behind the camera. Celebrated as a defining voice in British horror, Sangster's legacy is captured here in a definitive edition that showcases his transition from master screenwriter to singular directorial talent, reaffirming his enduring influence on the genre.

    LUST FOR A VAMPIRE

2-DISC COLLECTION WITH 5+ HOURS OF SPECIAL FEATURES

The second feature directed by Jimmy Sangster is also the second film in Hammer’s unofficial ‘Karnstein Trilogy’ loosely based on J. Sheridan Le Fanu's novel Carmilla which introduced an overt sapphic dimension to the traditional vampire mythos: In an 18th century village ruled by superstition, townspeople fear the 40-year curse that is said to reawaken a vampire family dynasty. But when the nearby girls’ school welcomes a new pupil (luscious Danish starlet Yutte Stensgaard) with a taste for her fellow young maidens, the forces of darkness will soon seek the blood of the innocent. Ralph Bates (THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN), Suzanna Leigh (THE LOST CONTINENT), Barbara Jefford (THE NINTH GATE) and Mike Raven (CRUCIBLE OF TERROR) co-star in this “perfect midnight chiller” (DVD Talk) written by Tudor Gates (THE VAMPIRE LOVERS, TWINS OF EVIL), scanned in 4K from the original camera negative by StudioCanal with nearly 6 hours of new and archival Special Features.

    FEAR IN THE NIGHT

3-DISC COLLECTION WITH 8 HOURS OF SPECIAL FEATURES

The third and final feature directed by Jimmy Sangster is a sly nod to DIABOLIQUE, a deft reworking of his earlier Hammer script for SCREAM OF FEAR and masterfully influenced by the burgeoning giallo genre: Recovering from a recent nervous breakdown, a young London newlywed (Judy Geeson of 10 RILLINGTON PLACE) moves to the country where her teacher husband (Ralph Bates of TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA) has taken a new job at a boys’ school. But when she’s repeatedly attacked by a one-armed, black-gloved maniac, nobody – including the sinister headmaster (Peter Cushing) and his jealous wife (Joan Collins) – will believe her. Intense scenes, outstanding performances and dark twists abound in this “radical departure from Hammer tropes” (Warped Perspective) co-written and produced by Sangster, now scanned in 4K from the original camera negative by StudioCanal with nearly 8 hours of new and archival Special Features.
