Heading a cast bursting with talented performers, radiant Eleanor Powell plays a girl who dreams of making it big on Broadway. On her way to the top, she has two memorable encounters: a racehorse named Stargazer, whose winning ways could help to make her dream come true, and a dashing Broadway producer-composer, Robert Taylor, who makes it all happen. Adding to the festivities are dancers George Murphy and Buddy Ebsen, Vaudeville comedian Willie Howard, and the legendary "red hot momma" Sophie Tucker.
As an unforgettable bonus, 15 year-old Judy Garland made movie history with her rendition of "You Made Me Love You" re-arranged as "Dear Mr. Gable," her hymn to Clark Gable that was such a sensation at a studio birthday party for the "King" that studio bosses thought it ideal to include in this film.
