Sinopsis:
Meet Baroness Teri (Kay Francis). She is breathtakingly beautiful, sinfully wealthy, and utterly bored out of her mind by her elderly, gout-ridden husband. In art-deco Vienna, her afternoons consist of dripping herself in diamonds and longing for a thrill that her mundane parade of high-society lovers simply cannot provide. Enter William Powell as a dapper, fastidiously well-mannered bandit who treats a jewelry heist with elegance! When his equally charming cohorts interrupt Teri's afternoon shopping spree, it isn't just the 28-carat Excelsior diamond Powell walks away with. Transfixed by his suave and irresistible wit, Teri willingly becomes an accomplice in her own abduction, discovering that a bit of grand larceny is the perfect cure for marital ennui.
William Dieterle's Jewel Robbery is a racy, unabashedly amoral masterpiece of pre-code cinema. Whether Powell is politely offering the police "special, relaxing cigarettes" or Francis is sporting jaw-dropping, backless gowns that defy the laws of gravity, Jewel Robbery provides the kind of playful innuendo and illicit fun that could only have been made at Warner Bros. before the code.
